HOME GRADES 11 AND 12 CURRICULUMThe International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme prepares students for education at universities and colleges throughout the world. It encompasses the in-depth study of six subjects (three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level) from a variety of disciplines. Students at the IB Diploma do more than build knowledge or skills in the different subject areas, however. At the core of the programme lies three component parts that are crucial to the philosophy of the IB. Students are required to engage in these three requirements: Theory of Knowledge; a research-based Extended Essay; and participation in Creativity, Action and Service activities. The Theory of Knowledge course is designed to provide coherence to the programme by exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines. The Extended Essay (prescribed limit: 4,000 words) allows the student to explore a topic of interest and do independent research and writing at university level. The Creativity, Action and Service programme encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community and service work. Student attainment within the Diploma Programme is ultimately measured by means of coursework submitted to the IB and written examinations in the second year of the course.
