IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Beacon Academy's Updated APEC Schedule

Dear Beacon Academy Community,

Last November 12, the school administration issued an announcement regarding concessions to work and class schedules for the Academy in light of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) - Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Metro Manila from November 17-20, 2015.

As indicated in this announcement, we have been monitoring the situation and evaluating these decisions carefully over the weekend in light of new information, i.e. the published arrival times of APEC delegations, the simulation of traffic schemes in Metro Manila and, most especially, the heightened security for the meeting due to the tragic events in Paris last Friday evening. In an administrative meeting this morning, it was determined that these conditions may truly compromise the transit of a great number of our faculty, students and staff to and from our campus during this week.

Superseding the announcement made last week, the administration has therefore decided that the Beacon Academy campus will be closed from Tuesday, November 17 to Friday, November 20, 2015.

Once again, please note that this decision is made out of consideration for the security of those whose transit may be affected during these days. These are not school holidays.  As such:

a. Teachers are expected to upload all tasks and teaching materials on Managebac for student access and must be available for online consultation during school hours;

b. Students are expected to access Managebac and to perform required tasks during this time;

c. Non-academic personnel are expected to continue work on on-going projects and be available for online collaboration during regular work hours on these days.

Given that schools have “the discretion to determine the schedule of make-up classes for the 2 day suspension occasioned by the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting” (http://www.gov.ph/2015/08/10/deped-memorandum-make-up-classes-aelm/), a strategy and schedule for making up the loss of class contact time will be released. These make-up strategies will not conflict with previously published dates on the school calendar.

Regular school operations and classes will resume on Monday, November 23, 2015.

Thank you very much.
